The function of education is the systematic provision of learning techniques to teach one to think intensively n critically.  Intelligence plus character- that is the purpose of education - Martin Luther King. Whenever a child is born, we think its time to teach; rather its time to let learning and unlearning happen!

It is this whole purpose of education that has been lost in the rat race of the twenty-first century. Parental dissatisfaction with available traditional schools typically includes concerns about the school environment, the curriculum, bullying, and schools lack attention to children's special needs. Every child is different. Every child learns differently and is motivated differently, and to test them on same parameters is not the right. Hence, the concept of alternative education systems was being experimented, which were different from main streams. Such alternative learning environments may be found in independent schools as well as home-based learning environments. Home schooling is slowly n steadily making its presence felt in the scene of Indian education after being a recognized mode of education in the U.S.A and U.K.

Homeschooling is the education of children inside the home, usually conducted by a parent or tutor. Many families use less formal ways of educating. It is being increasingly recognized that students learn better when they have real responsibility for their own education. In fact, some see this as a basic right.

Parents no longer want their children to follow herd mentality when it comes to choosing careers, so the foundation of their child's education has to be held on inquisitiveness and not on rote learning methods in practice in traditional schools of the modern day. They find home schooling as best option for flexibility of time n topic, more options for specialization, less stress, fun learning, more time to pursue extracurricular activities and sports. Pay attention to an individual child's aptitudes and abilities thus allow the child to spend more time on childhood activities, socializing, and non-academic learning.

Even parents of children with special needs find a solace in homeschooling by tutors if not the parent themselves.

In the process of homeschooling they often combine certain subjects that are not necessarily grade- or age-specific, such as history, literature, and the arts but chosen in accordance to Childs interest and natural inherent talent. Although discipline schedule is maintained again this is very much flexible. Instead of home works and test the level of skill or knowledge to be attained and achieved is checked on by parents time to time and they keep changing the methodologies in accordance. So child could, be several grades ahead in certain subjects but behind in others.

Research shows on average, homeschoolers score at or above the national average on standardized tests. Critics of homeschooling claim that students lack necessary social skills. Homeschool students have been accepted into many Ivy League universities.

Everyone knows that Thomas Edison's mom pulled him out of school after just three months, because his teacher referred to him as "addled” she educated him herself. Poet Robert Frost after being homeschooled by his mother as a child, he decided to homeschooled all four of his children. Serena and Venus Williams were home schooled in order to ensure that tennis never got in the way of a good education. Shining star of homeschooling in India from Mumbai, Malvika Joshi was rejected by the IIT but made it to the MIT reinforce the faith of other homeschooling parents.

Now with today's explosion of information, the best thing we can do is help children maintain openness, curiosity, and flexibility as they face life. I easily concede that the homeschool is not for everyone. But then again, neither is any one form of education going to meet the needs of everyone, just nurture the love of learning and the world is oyster.
